New York has named their offensive, defensive, and special teams coordinators
The Giants have made three additions to their new coaching staff. Head Coach Joe Judge announced on Monday that Jason Garrett will be New York’s offensive coordinator, Thomas McGaughey will be the team’s special teams coordinator, and Patrick Graham will serve as New York’s defensive coordinator and assistant head coach.
Jason Garrett joins the Giants’ coaching staff after being the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys from 2010 to this past season. Before that, Garrett was the Cowboys’ OC from 2007 to the midway point of the 2010 season. Jason Garrett also played with the Giants from 2000 to 2003, where he served as a back-up. He finished his head coaching career with a record of 85-67.
Patrick Graham also bolsters an impressive coaching resume. He has been a coach in the NFL for 11 years with four different teams. During his coaching tenure, his teams made the playoffs eight times and won Super Bowl XLIX. He most recently served as the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins last season. Before that, he was the inside linebackers coach for the Green Bay Packers in 2018.
Thomas McGaughey was retained by the Giants and will return to the team for his third season as Special Teams coordinator. New York’s special teams unit has been one of the best in the league under McGaughey’s watch. The Giants’ kicking team only allowed an average of 18.1 return yards, which led the NFL. Also, punter Riley Dixon broke a franchise record with a 42.3 net yard average. Prior to 2019, McGaughey oversaw the unit when kicker Aldrick Rosas was named to the 2018 Pro Bowl.
The Giants are not yet done adding to their coaching staff. A source told ESPN that former Wisconsin and Arkansas Head Coach Bret Bielema will also be joining the team as a coach. Bielema spent the last two seasons with the New England Patriots as an assistant defensive coach. According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the Giants are still finalizing the details of his deal and are also still trying to figure out what Bielema’s role will be with the team.
